Pre-employment Physical Agility Testing for law enforcement and corrections:

South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium (The Academy) provides entry level physical agility testing to applicants for law enforcement officers. The following Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) has been developed:

Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB):
a. 99 yard obstacle course
b. 165 lb Body Drag 32ft
c. Chain Link Fence Climb 6ft
d. Solid Wall Climb 6ft
e. 500 Yard Sprint
f. 1.5 mile run (completed in 14 minutes or less)

The established qualifying score for most agencies is set at 320 as its minimum entry level requirement for the WSTB phase and a 14 minute maximum time for the 1.5 mile run. (Tests are given rain or shine.)

Except for the inclusion of a 1.5 mile run, the physical agility test otherwise mirrors the WSTB physical agility test standard required for graduation from a California P.O.S.T. accredited peace officer academy.

The WSTB test is given at The Academy in San Jose. Click here to view the WSTB schedule and sign up for testing.

Practice Sessions for the WSTB:

The Academy offers optional practice sessions for the WSTB. You will receive instruction and practice for the Fence Climb, Obstacle Course, Dummy Drag, 500 yard run and 1.5 mile run. Click here to view the WSTB practice schedule and sign up for a practice session.

Pre-employment Written Testing :

The POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) is required by most agencies in California. Click here for PELLETB info & test schedules.

The mission of The Academy is to meet the educational and training needs of public safety students within the areas represented by the participating community college districts. Courses offered must meet a regional need of either small or large public safety agencies. Courses will also be carefully articulated with lower division academic programs and upper division transfer degree programs. Liaison will be maintained with the Region Six "Public Safety Training Committee" which is charged with the development of regional facilities and technology for skill development.
